Ready for Spring!

The weather has been wacky this year, but we are ready for spring planting! At DFI, one of our greenhouses is dedicated to growing seedlings, not only for our farm, but for other farmers in Northern Nevada as well. As you can tell from the picture, some of our tomato plants are about ready to be planted in the hoop houses. Early tomatoes are a must in order to provide our customers with local tomatoes as soon in the season as possible.

  1. I am a student at UNR and I have never had a chance to venture over and explore the Desert Farming Initiative area! I was wondering how the tomatoes hold up in the extreme weather conditions of the desert? Are the hoop houses alone enough to keep frost off of the plants?
